Featured Musicians

We're excited to be joined this year by three fabulous musicians who will provide music for teaching sessions...and more!

Jan Wollring

Picture
Jan Wollring is a well-known folk musician in the Netherlands. He has toured Bulgaria with dance ensembles Zarowe, Praznik and Bulgarian singer Galina Durmuslyiška. With Galina, Jaap and Jan produced the CD, “At the Bulgarian Dance Tavern” featuring Jan and the folk group Kusmet.

Jan has composed a Râčenica for Jaap in honor of their 25 years of artistic collaboration. Praznavoadeva Râčenica (Leegwater’s Râčenica) was recorded in 2017 by the Jan Wollring Kwartetten and officially released at a weekend workshop in Stockholm, Sweden. Jan also appears on several of Jaap’s more recent CD’s and plays together with Jaap in the Netherlands in the international folk dance orchestra “Feniks”.

Jan's group has played for Jaap’s workshops on two teaching tours in the U.S. and were the house band for Stockton Folk Dance Camp in 2001 and Mel Diamond's Dance Circle in 2001 in Maryland. Jaap & Jan are eager to share their fabulous music and dance at Camp.

Jan will be accompanying Jaap and Mea's teaching sessions.

The Parson Sisters (Mirinisa Stewart-Tengco on fiddle and Clara Byom on keys) is a duo based in Albuquerque, NM, specializing in global folk dance music, including Balkan, Irish, contra, and English Country. Mirinisa and Clara became instant friends and musical collaborators after being introduced by mutual friends in January 2018. The New Mexican folk music and dance communities are at the heart of The Parson Sisters’ work, as they’ve been independently active in two important local organizations--New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society and Southwest International Folk Dance Institute—and hope to encourage a new generation of dancers and musicians to embrace and share these cultural traditions.

The Parson Sisters will be accompanying Bruce's teaching sessions.
